Guests will delight in the grounds of this Grade II listed building, situated in delightful countryside on the outskirts of the historic city of Carlisle and only 1 mile from the M6. Newbiggin Hall is steeped in history and was built originally as a pele tower in 1304, a place of refuge from Scottish raiders and feuding border families, providing shelter for humans and animals. Subsequent re building and additions in the 17th and 18th century have created a handsome country house. The location is perfect as a base to visit the Lakes, Carlisle, Hadrians Wall, the Scottish Borders and the Eden Valley. The nearest pub is approx 1 mile and Carlisle has an abundance of amenities, great shopping, superb dining and places of interest such as the Cathedral, Castle and Tullie House Museum. The extensive 3 acre garden provide an idyllic spot to relax and unwind, with very large lawns, flower borders and a woodland which kids will love to play in. There is a lovely 3 mile walk from Newbiggin Hall which takes you across the river Petteril, through woodland and open countryside. For a special occasion guests can hire the beautiful Jacobean style dining room in the main hall, with seating for up to 15 people. This magnificent room has a medieval feel, with huge open fire and ornate curved ceiling. Prices from £100/session.. The West Wing is accessed via the main hall where the owners meet and greet you. It is an apartment on the entire first floor of the West Wing with lovely views over the beautiful garden and a fabulous half tester bed.
