Description of The Dovery
Sedbergh is set to the West of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the eastern fells of the Lake District, only 30 minutes drive from Windermere and is therefore ideal for exploring both areas of unspoilt and protected countryside. Sedbergh has a variety of narrow lanes and small clusters of old buildings including a 12th century Norman church (restored in 1886) and, overlooking the town, is the site of Castlehaw, an ancient motte and bailey castle. However Sedbergh has a new status, Book Town for England, and as such has a growing number of book shops, both new and second hand and is set to evolve over the coming months and years into a literary paradise.
